Quick answer: Tashkeel's 2026 exhibition programme at its gallery in Nad Al Sheba, Dubai, included Al Wissam Script by Wissam Shawkat (11 January to 15 February), the Ramadan group show Salam curated by Ibrahim Zaki (14 March to 28 April), Unfolding by Moza Al Falasi (15 May to 12 July), the risograph group show Khali Balak Men RISO (17 July to 23 August), Precarious Beings by Hamad Almuzaini (1 September to 11 October), and Provisional Sanctuaries by Shamin Sharum. Each exhibition was accompanied by limited objects, from crockery to sketchbooks and prints, that let the work live on beyond the gallery.
The thread running through the year
Read together, the year's exhibitions circle one question: how do signs, places and memories shape who we are? Some answered with letters, others with houses, cities or prayer mats. And each one asked how art can leave the gallery and enter daily life.
Al Wissam Script: a script becomes a signature
11 January to 15 February 2026. Calligrapher and designer Wissam Shawkat opened the year with a solo exhibition around Al Wissam, the script he developed. The show explored how a personal letterform can carry both discipline and emotion.

Salam: letters of peace during Ramadan
14 March to 28 April 2026. Curated by Ibrahim Zaki and presented during Ramadan, Salam brought together 20 contemporary artists and designers who use Arabic calligraphy and typography to express compassion, patience, mercy, unity and inner peace, from traditional scripts to experimental abstraction. Workshops on poster design and lettering ran alongside the show.

Unfolding: the house as a feeling
15 May to 12 July 2026. In her first solo exhibition, Moza Al Falasi approached the home not as a building to reconstruct but as something unstable: a field of feeling scattered across fragments, surfaces and echoes, reshaped by memory, loss and time.

Khali Balak Men RISO: the beauty of imperfection
17 July to 23 August 2026. Tashkeel's first exhibition devoted entirely to risograph printing, curated by Ibrahim Zaki, took its playful title from an Egyptian comedy series. It brought together artists who use the riso as a core practice and painters and illustrators new to it, celebrating limitation, layering, texture and unexpected results.

Precarious Beings: the city's overlooked details
1 September to 11 October 2026. Hamad Almuzaini's solo exhibition examined placemaking in Kuwait City through everyday details, overlooked objects and urban infrastructure, using photography, drawing and sculpture to trace the relationships between people, systems and the built environment.

Provisional Sanctuaries: prayer in the city
Shamin Sharum's exhibition reflects on the quiet, temporary musollas (prayer spaces) that appear in warehouses, shopfronts and back rooms across the UAE. Through paintings, drawings and maquettes, it asks how fleeting spaces can create belonging, stillness and connection among strangers.

Why exhibitions become objects
An exhibition lasts a few weeks; a mug lasts years. Translating each show into catalogues, crockery and stationery lets more people own a piece of contemporary art from the UAE, and keeps the conversation going at home. Read more in From Gallery Wall to Dinner Table.
