________

Materialising stories once carried by monsoon winds, Alia AlShamsi transforms the folklore, memories, and cultural exchanges shared between South Asia, the Arabian Peninsula, and East Africa into tangible vessels. Through furniture and objects, her work traces journeys, encounters, and imagined histories, creating contemporary artefacts that inhabit the space between storytelling, trade, and possibility.

Drawing inspiration from the monsoon trade routes that connected South Asia, the Arabian Peninsula, and East Africa, the collection explores the stories, ideas, and cultural exchanges that once travelled across oceans and generations. Just as these routes carried folklore, knowledge, and shared experiences between distant shores, the pieces in this collection create spaces where new stories can emerge.

At the heart of the collection is the concept of the Offline Corner: a dedicated space within the home for slowing down, reflecting, and reconnecting with one’s imagination. In an age of constant connectivity, it offers a sanctuary for quiet rituals — a morning spent journaling over coffee, an afternoon of contemplation, or a late evening immersed in a book.
